KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- There is a new development in the criminal case of a longtime Kirksville dentist.

Dr. Steve Barber, 71, is charged with two felony counts of tampering with a witness.

Barber's case was delayed after he suffered a stroke, which the defense claims has made him unable to contribute to his defense.

On Thursday afternoon, Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson filed a motion asking that Barber be required to undergo an independent medical exam and release his medical records to the prosecution.

In his filing Wilson state, among other things, he has learned that Barber has maintained his dental license and has started to see patients, that he has filed to renew his DEA license and that he was able to communicate with members of the Missouri State Board of Dentistry earlier this week.

Barber is currently scheduled for a case review on November 15.
