NEAR KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- This summer’s weather conditions have had an extreme affect on many forms of work around the Heartland.

From excessive heat to seemingly non-stop rain, the weather has put construction crews everywhere behind schedule.

A section of Adair County Route P, closed since July 19, will now remain closed to traffic until early September.

The project was initially expected to take 21 days, but due to excessive rainfall, the deadline for the project has been extended.

The road construction will ultimately connect Route P to the new Alternate Route 63.

The realignment of Route P to 63 includes heavy earth grading, which requires a drying period after each rainfall.

There are no "detour" signs up, but side roads can be used to avoid the area.
