DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Sendoffs are planned across the state for the Iowa National Guard in its largest deployment since WWII.

Over two dozens ceremonies will take place from Friday to Aug. 9 for 2,800 members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team being sent to Afghanistan.

The soldiers will report to Camp Shelby, Miss., for additional training and then California before traveling to Afghanistan in September.

The brigade is lead by Col. Ben Corell, who has lead Guard units overseas three times.

Friday's sendoffs are in Algona, Boone, Eagle Grove, Mount Pleasant, Keokuk and Storm Lake.
