The latest on flood conditions at Rathbun Lake.
NEAR MORAVIA, IOWA -- Flood waters are "slowly" starting to recede at Rathbun Lake, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, thanks to the outlet works and no heavy rains since Monday.
Officials are stating that 3,000 cubic feet of water per second is being released from the lake through the outlet works.
The Corps is keeping in close contact with officials downstream, and providing there are no flooding issues in the Chariton River Valley, the release from Rathbun will remain at 3,000 cubic feet per second.
David Kolarik, the Public Affairs Chief with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Kansas City District) has been at Rathbun Lake. He told KTVO that conditions are slowly beginning to improve. And we could be seeing the crest of the flood waters, providing there is no additional rain in the near future.
