OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Paratroopers honored America’s veterans Saturday afternoon Ottumwa.

Inclement weather postponed the original drop during a July 4th ceremony but today could not have been a better day with clear skies and low wind.

Dozens gathered to honor the veterans and watch the paratroopers land at the Greater Ottumwa Park.

One paratrooper descended carrying a POW flag and another with an American flag.

They landed in a row of veteran’s and spectators holding American flags.

“A lot of the veterans know the respect and see the American flag and what it stands for. The American people know if it wasn’t for the flag we wouldn’t have the freedom we’ve got today,” said Vietnam Veterans of America chapter 667 president Danny Mathews.

Mathews added we should keep today’s soldiers in our thoughts and prayers, not just the veterans.

The skydivers also met with those interested to show the supplies and talk about skydiving
