KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Kirksville Regional Air Festival is less than two months away.

The air show will take place the weekend of September 11th and the Depot Inn and Suites is the title sponsor for the second year in a row.

The fundraising goal is $40,000 to pay for all expenses.

So far about half that money has been pledged thanks to local businesses and other contributors.

“We've got a long ways to go but I'm confident we'll get there with the fine local business people, the fundraising effort is always the hard part.  It's tough to go out and ask people for money in these times,” said Airport Director David Hall.

Hall says tickets will go on sale at the end of this month.

Rather than tickets, you will receive a wrist-band for the cost of $10 a person or $30 a carload.  That cost will get you in both days.

Last year the festival included the sale of alcohol.  That won’t be offered this year.  Organizers says the cost of the insurance and permit wasn’t worth it.

“International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) had identified that it’s a huge revenue source at most air shows and so that’s why we wanted to have it at our air show is just for the revenue and last year it just didn’t materialize,” said Hall.

Entertainment includes an A-10 Thunderbolt demolition team and a Heritage Flight.

“Just a lot of variety, in that vein we have a jet powered school bus this year and a jet powered outhouse as well.  So a little variety along with some really cool airplanes,” said Hall.
