SELMA, IOWA -- Flooding continues to be an issue in southeast Iowa.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s office said they have not had any official reports of damage, but there are a number of roads closed and some evacuations.
Many of the residents say they have been eyeing the river closely.
The Des Moines made its way a few feet deep into the Pennington’s house in 2008.
They are very concerned about the water reaching their house again this year.
“We are very concerned. I mean with all the rain that’s coming through and the water they are letting down through the dam and stuff… yeah very concerned. It could come up in a hurry, we just don’t know,” Ardice Pennington said.
While the river has receded a few feet, they are still taking precautions if the water might creep up to the house again.
“Well we pulled our travel trailer out. We pulled all our expensive equipment to Bloomfield to store it. We brought our trailer back yesterday because it did go back down but we are leaving our stuff in Bloomfield because we don’t want to have to move it again,” Pennington said.
This year has not been as bad, but Pennington said it does remind her of 2008.
“Well it keeps going up and down and up and down so we have moved stuff out and moving stuff back. We don’t know what to do. You can’t sleep at night because you are worried about it coming up on you.”
