KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It’s been two weeks since fireworks tents popped up around the city of Kirksville. That means Monday was the last day to sell fireworks in Kirksville.
We stopped by one of the K-Life tents to see how sales were this year. Workers tell us this season was a big success. The not-for-profit organization says this is their biggest fundraiser each year and sales like this will help them all year long.
“We’re not judging it simply on the success that we may have had financially that it’s a huge fundraiser for us and having that helped a lot but just solely on the fact that we got to be a part of the community, meet a lot of new people,” said K-Life Area Director Kevin Harrison, “To have a successful fireworks season sets us up to kinda make decisions on what we want to do throughout the year. And since it went well for us, we get to look forward to our dodge ball tournament that will be in the fall and our basketball tournament that's in the spring.”
Harrison says it was a community wide effort running both tents and he’s thankful to everyone who helped.
K-Life gave away prizes in two separate raffle drawings. One winner received four Cardinals tickets and another won $1000 in fireworks.
“Getting to see the joy that that family had winning and they brought as many as they could up here to collect their fireworks. And there were many stories like that where people were coming to the K-Life tent and just having fun and that means more to us than the financial gain,” said Harrison.
