MACON, MISSOURI -- The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission Thursday approved a contract to construct 2.5 miles of Alternate Route 63 from Route 6 South to just south of the Route 11 intersection.  The contract was awarded to C.J. Moyna and Sons Construction at a cost of $7.5 million.  Work on this second phase of the Alternate Route could begin this fall.

CJ Monya is the contractor on the 6-mile section currently under construction.  That $17.4 million contract was awarded last year.  On this project the grading work north of Route 6 is progressing, most of the culvert work is completed, and Steer Creek Bridge is nearing completion.

Current plans are to close the Route P intersection on Tuesday, July 13. The closure will allow the contractor to remove the existing intersection and construct a new intersection for Route P with the Alternate Route.  Construction should take about 21 days to complete. This close date is tentative and could be rescheduled.  MoDOT will advise motorists prior to the actual closure.

This first phase of the Alternate Route is expected to open to traffic next fall.  The entire 8.5 mile project is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of next year.
