KIRKSVILLE, MO --
Kirksville community members were “locked up” today to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The jailbirds arrived, got their “mug shot” taken, and had to raise bail money to get out of jail. About 100 offenders participated in the lock-up, which brought in $18,500.
“I've seen $1000 in mostly change come in before and I've seen checks for $1000 and you just never know who you're talking to, how much money they're going to bring and why they bring that, so most of these people just have big hearts and they love helping people,” said Ryan Hopper, MDA Executive Director.
This is the tenth year for the event. All of the money will be used to help local families who are affected by the disease.
