Two Pounds of Marijuana seized

THORNBURG, IOWA -- A Thornburg man faces multiple charges after authorities executed a search warrant Wednesday evening.

Mike Younghans, 69, of Thornburg, Iowa was arrested at his residence of 3000 Highway 22.

Younghans faces charges of “Possession with intent to deliver marijuana” and “Failure to deliver the drug tax stamp.”

Police had been monitoring this residence for more than two months.

“This was the result of a pretty extensive undercover operation conducted by the Southeast Iowa Drug Task Force, Department of Narcotics Enforcement, Keokuk County Sheriffs Department and Sigourney Police Department,” Keokuk County Sheriff Jeff Shipley said.

Once they had the evidence they needed, they acted.

“Usually during these types of investigations we make purchases of drugs. Once we have a solid case we will execute a search warrant,” said Lt. Tom McAndrew of the Southeast Iowa Drug Task Force.

McAndrew said Authorities seized two pounds of marijuana, a large number a marijuana plants, weapons, and a sum of cash in yesterdays event.

Younghans is being held at the Keokuk County Jail.
