BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- The Davis County Hospital’s $7.1 million expansion is now officially open and one new permanent service available is the MRI suite.

The suite permits MRI services on a daily basis as opposed to a traveling MRI trailer available only twice a week.

“Number one, it’s convenience. It’s here for the patients, it’s here for the physicians to have their patients stay at home so they don’t have to travel or wait 1-2 days for the mobile service to come to the community,” said Ancillary Services Manager Rodney Day.

It provides easier access, they do not have to fight against inclement weather, and it offers a more comfortable environment.

The MRI machine and equipment cost roughly $1 million and was largely funded through the Patricia Schwab estate.

"When you get that estate you kind of look at it and say what can we do with that money that we wouldn’t buy otherwise. And so you buy something like this and put it in house. It’s more convenient for patients and a great asset for the hospital,” Day said.

The hospital officially opened their addition on Wednesday at 7:00 am.
