DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa officials say data from recent years show Saturdays during June have been among the deadliest days on state roadways.

So the Iowa Department of Public Safety's Iowa State Patrol Division said Tuesday that there will be extra manpower out on Saturdays this month. Officials say troopers will focus on removing drunken drivers from roadways in a program called "Safe Saturdays."

Authorities say during the operation last June, OWI arrests were 120 percent higher than they were the previous year. Other citations increased too, such those for speeding and seat belts.
