SOUTHEAST IOWA -- Sunday was a busy day for Graduations across the heartland.
Van Buren High School honored 64 graduates in the 2010 class. Nineteen warriors were recognized with a Merit Diploma.
Van Buren’s valedictorian is Whitney Atwood.
Davis County High School enjoyed the beautiful weather and held their commencement ceremony at Mustang Stadium.
Thomas Gladson was recognized as valedictorian, but he wasn’t the only one excelling. More than half of the graduates, or 46 of 82, graduated with honors.
The Centerville Reds donned Black and Silver gowns for their commencement.
Principal Bill Messerole said they had nine students enter their senior year with a 4.0 GPA.
He said their top 10%, or 12 students walked with a combined 3.99 GPA
“It means we’re losing a great group of kids but it’s their culminating event of their high school career and now it’s time for them to move on. You hate to lose these kids but we have another group coming in and replacing them,” Messerole said.
Eddyville and Pekin also held their commencement ceremonies Sunday afternoon.
