WATERLOO, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa's corn and soybeans have weathered the recent cold snap and heavy rains.
Crops experts say the crops temporarily stopped growing, prompting concerns about replanting. But they believe the plants escaped injury.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday, 96 percent of Iowa's corn and 53 percent of soybeans are planted.
Shannon Gomes of Cedar Basin Crop Consulting in Waverly says the growing point of most corn was underground and most soybeans hadn't emerged yet when widespread frost hit May 9. That was followed by torrential rains last Wednesday and Thursday.
Brian Lang of Iowa State University Extension says fields will look different after this week's warm and dry weather.
