KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Job seekers and employers alike gathered at the NEMO Fairgrounds Tuesday for the NEMO Job Fair. 47 employers ranging from healthcare to manufacturing and even government agencies were looking for interested persons to fill open positions.
The Missouri Career Center helped sponsor the event and says it was a huge success.
“I think this is one of the best ones we’ve had. There was one owe had two or three more employers but the turnout has been just fantastic this year and I think it’s the best one,” said Workforce Development Supervisor Cathy Collop.
Also at the career fair was an official representing Veterans’ Education. Missouri Troops to Teachers Director Chad Schatz says the GI Bill benefits can be used for more than education payments. The funds can be spent for On-the-Job Training or Apprenticeship Training. Schatz says those benefits can truly help the economy.
“These VA benefits come from Washington, DC and they turn 5-7 times in the local economy, the state’s economy, so this does have some real economic impact if people would use the benefits they’re entitled to,” said Schatz.
Schatz says the g-i bill can pay veterans, dependents, and other military personnel up to 1000 dollars a month.
