KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Recent actions by the Missouri legislature have given school districts greater flexibility in adopting year round schooling. While the concept may sound humbling to some, Kirksville R-III Superintendent Patrick Williams feels districts would gain more than the students.
“Unfortunately in these budget circumstances, select school districts are switching to year round schooling to save money” said Williams. “You know it’s something we’re open to. It’s not something that we are looking seriously at implementing right away. If we were ever to look at something like year round schooling, it would certainly come after a long period of study. The research is still uncertain to the benefits. I think you can find some situations where that’s proven beneficial and others where there has been little achievement.”
