JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- Scores of education officials from across Missouri are joining Gov. Jay Nixon's call to rein in tax credits. But Missouri House leaders say they will not support the idea.

Nixon was joined Wednesday at a Capitol news conference by about 70 teachers and administrators representing K-12 schools, community colleges and universities. They say tax credits are siphoning money from education. And they are backing efforts to limit and reorganize Missouri's tax credit programs.

Some Republican senators also want to limit state tax credits.

But moments after Nixon's announcement, Republican House leaders held their own news conference to oppose the governor's plan. They said tax credits for businesses and developers have helped spur the economy.
