OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Last week, KTVO reported on an overflowing dumpster that hadn’t been emptied in a week.

We went back to check on the situation and found an empty and new dumpster.

Tenant Rodney Long said a new landlord has taken over and is working hard to satisfy the residents.

He said the complex looks much nicer and welcoming without trash lying everywhere, yet alone the stench.

“I am very relieved because it looks a lot better out here and the smell and stench are not there anymore, it’s a lot better,” Long said.

Other issues still remain at the complex, such as bed bugs. Long says he will not pay rent until they are taken care of.

“A new landlord took over today and he has been taking care of everything that I wanted addressed to the health department. Things are looking better.  You can see the dumpster has been dumped and it’s been cleaned up and I’m very happy things are taking place,” Long said.

The new landlord, wished to keep anonymous so people do not accuse him of the previous owners’ situation, said he “will do what it takes” to improve the complex and get the residents happy.

And he is off to a good start by taking care of the dumpster situation.

“(We are) a lot happier.  We can dump our trash out of the house now. Before we had it bagged up lying around the house and you could also see it lying around the ground out here.  To me, it’s a lot safer having it in the garbage than having it all over the yard,” Long said.
