NEWTON, IOWA (AP) -- Authorities say a 5-month-old Newton boy burned to death in his car seat when the seat was Placed on a glass stove top that was accidentally turned on.

Chase Edward Finch died in the fire on Aug. 4.

His death has been ruled an accident, and police say no charges will be filed.

Police say the baby was in his car seat and was placed on top of the stove to avoid a dog in the home.

At some point, the control for the left rear burner was bumped into the on position, which ignited the car seat.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives determined the knob could have been bumped by either the placement of the car seat or gentle rocking of the seat.

The ATF also determined the car seat obscured the burner and indicator lights.
