DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa lawmakers have adjourned the legislative session after approving a final catchall measure.
The House finished its business Tuesday morning, and the Senate followed suit just after noon, ending the session on its 79th day. The session had been scheduled to run 100 days but was scaled back to save money as state government dealt with plunging tax revenue blamed on Iowa's troubled economy.
The last measure dealt with the $5.3 billion budget, but it included a range of topics, from new protections for bicyclists to limited visitation rights for grandparents.
The House approved the plan on a 51-48 vote, sending it to the Senate where it was approved on a 29-16 vote.
