BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- Rancho Centinela Family Mexican Restaurant hosted 102 students of the Davis County sixth grade class as part of "Creativity Week."

Students had the chance to taste Mexican cuisine and learn about the culture on Thursday, all with the goal of promoting "higher-order thinking skills."

"It's just a great thing to be able to have this in our community. And be able to share this with our students, to actually have them have a little bit of a different country," said Lisa Cook, Social Studies Teacher.

In their classroom, the students are currently studying Mexican culture.

"They're learning about the physical features of Mexico, some culture as far as religion, the language. And we are also comparing to the United States because we have already looked at the United States and Canada," Cook said.

Organizers expressed appreciation to Juan Garcia and the Rancho Centinela Family Restaurant for donating the food, location and time for supporting the event.
