JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri House has approved its version of a bill outlawing synthetic compounds that mimic the effects of marijuana.
The House passed the measure Wednesday by a 142-10 vote. It now goes to the Senate, which gave initial approval to its own version of the bill Tuesday night.
The synthetic compounds, commonly known as K2, are applied to dried herbs and flowers and often sold as incense. The substance produces a marijuana-like high when smoked or inhaled.
Lawmakers and police officials in Missouri say they've seen an increase in the number of teenagers and parolees who are smoking the products.
Kansas banned the compounds in early March.
