DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Some residents of two Des Moines apartment buildings are suing over what they say is a persistent infestation of bedbugs.

A class-action lawsuit filed in Polk County District Court alleges more than 250 people have suffered "unconscionable" living conditions at Ligutti Tower and Elsie Mason Manor, which have many elderly and disabled residents.

The lawsuit, which was brought under Iowa's consumer protection law, seeks immediate fumigation of both buildings and a ban on renting future apartments without disclosing the problem. Documents filed with the Iowa attorney general's office say the plaintiffs will seek as much as $7.4 million.

The buildings are owned by the First Baptist Housing Foundation. Attorney Jonathan Wilson says he's looking look at the validity of the claims.
