NOVELTY, MO --
It looks like it'll be another wet season for farmers.
Our Fact Finder Team took to the fields to see how farmers are dealing with the wet conditions.
Researchers at the UMC Greenley Research Center rely on surface drainage to remove water. The drainage system is something they've been working on for nine years.
“We've seen about a 20 percent increase in corn grain yields, just drainage by itself and about 20 percent on soybeans as well. The site that we installed last fall is performing very well. We've kicked everything into drainage mode as we prepare for field operations,” said Kelly Nelson, Research Agronomist.
Nelson says disease could also cause major problems for farmers. Diseases in the soil caused a lot of loss in the corn and wheat yield last year.
