DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Lawmakers expect to edge a bit closer to adjournment this week, as the governor signs a budget-cutting reorganization bill and forecasters estimate how much tax money will flow to the state.

Legislative leaders said they're in good position to adjourn by late March, with key bills either approved or moving toward a vote.

Gov. Chet Culver plans on opening the week by signing into law a restructuring of state government that squeezes about $127 million from the fiscal year budget beginning July 1. When coupled with other moves, state officials have trimmed roughly $270 million from the budget.

On Thursday, a three-person panel will make its final projection of state revenue. Lawmakers are obliged to base the budget off that estimate.
