CHARITON, IOWA (AP) -- The family of an Iowa man allegedly killed by his 12-year-old stepson says the boy should be punished.
That's according to a letter to the Des Moines Register from the family of Todd Peek. His body was found on Feb. 10 in his home. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
His 12-year-old stepson was charged with first-degree murder and charges for allegedly trying to kill his mother and a five-year-old girl. Court records show the boy was found in a tree stand about a half mile away from the house.
In the letter, Peek's family disputes allegations of emotional abuse of the boy.
The Chariton boy is in custody at the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center in Des Moines.
