MEMPHIS, MO -- Heartland dairy farmers gathered in Memphis, Missouri, on Thursday for the annual Dairy Day program.

The annual event is put on by the University of Missouri Extension and is a good way for dairy farmers to see what’s new in the milking business.

Event coordinator Joe Koenen says the event allows for dairy farmers to keep up with the current trends.

“Last year wasn't a good year for the dairy business, and so we are talking about different things to have a better year and a better future” said Koenen.  “We're talking about pasture weed control and several other things that are a critical interest to dairy producers.”

Agricultural specialist gave presentations throughout the day on “Strategies for Financial Recovery”, “Managing Your Pasture Weeds”, “Utilizing Your Records to Analyze Your Farm Business”, “New Cost-Share Programs through NRCS”, and “Managing Laminitis”.  Koenen said the presentations were given by faculty from the University of Missouri, a veterinarian, and regional faculty with university extensions from northeast Missouri.
