CHARITON, IOWA (AP) -- Court documents say the mother of a 12-year-old Chariton boy accused of killing his stepfather allegedly saw the boy shoot her husband.
According to search warrant documents, when authorities arrived at the house on Feb. 10, they found Todd Peek on the floor with a gunshot wound to the chest. A handgun was on the floor.
The documents show that "a witness, Sarah Peek, identified the shooter ... as her son."
The boy is charged in juvenile court with first-degree murder. He also faces charges for allegedly trying to kill his mother and a five-year-old girl.
Court records show the boy was found in a tree stand about a half mile away from the house.
The Associated Press does not name juveniles charged in a crime.
