ALBIA, IOWA -- A heartland child remains in a hospital after a call for help over the weekend.

On Friday February 12, Monroe County law enforcement received a call of an unresponsive 2-year-old boy.  The child, Jayden Clark, was found on the scene and transported to University hospitals in Iowa City.

He's listed in critical but stable condition according to law enforcement officials.  KTVO spoke with Mike Clinkenbeard. Clinkenbeard tells KTVO that he is Jayden's great uncle. According to Clinkenbeard, Jayden was in foster care with his three siblings.

He suffered a blood clot to the head and laceration on his liver.  Clinkenbeard says doctors believe the injuries could only have been caused by an adult.

The incident is under investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Monroe County sheriff's office.  Neither agency would offer additional comments on the case.
