DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Census forms are coming to Iowa as the national population count gets under way.
A 2010 U.S Census form will be mailed to most Iowa households in mid-March. Federal officials say it should take about 10 minutes to complete.
Assistant Regional Census Manager Rich Gerdes of Kansas City, Mo., says households that don't respond may receive a replacement form in April. He says census takers will visit households that don't return questionnaires to take a count in person.
The U.S. Constitution requires a census every 10 years to count the population and determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives.
