JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- People won't be the only ones counted as part a census in 2010. Some animals will be counted, too.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is conducting a survey of cattle, sheep and goat producers nationwide to get updated data on their conditions and populations.

The Missouri field office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service says it will be contacting about 2,400 livestock farmers during the first two weeks of January.

Those selected for the surveys will have the option of responding by telephone, mail, Internet or personal interviews.

The human census is expected to occur later in the year.
