BLOOMFIELD -- With the Christmas season in full swing, more and more people are opting to buy artificial trees. There are still many farms across the Midwest where a family can pick out and cut their own tree. The Clearview Tree Farm in Bloomfield, Iowa sells about 200 trees each season.
For some families, hunting for a Christmas tree is a family tradition. Owner of Clearview Tree Farm, Anita Shockley says this is something everyone in the family can take part in.
“People have a lot of interest in trying to have family traditions and keep them alive from generation to generation,” said Shockley.
After walking through pine needles and trees April Sample, Dereck Hormann and 5-year-old Nicholas found a tree. One problem they stumbled into was chopping the tree down.
“We had a dull saw,” said Hormann.
After repeated attempts, one of the workers at the farm pulled out the heavy artillery: the chainsaw.
Sample is happy once they get the tree not just because of the Christmas joy it brings.
“(Nicholas) is good for Santa if we have a tree,” she says laughing.
