KIRKSVILLE, MO --
A large number of deer are being hit on the roadways.
These pictures were Thursday morning at a two-vehicle crash east of Brashear.
In Adair County alone, authorities report that in the last 12 days, they've responded to 16 car crashes involving deer. This includes one fatality as a result of a car striking a dead deer in the road.
“Remember this is right in the middle of the rut season and these deer are just running everywhere, and I would urge that people slow down, at night especially, take a little extra time to get where you need to go, and don't overdrive your headlights. In fact one of my deputies hit one with our new trucks. It didn't to any damage to the truck,” said Adair County Sheriff Bob Hardwick.
If you hit a deer, Hardwick says you should pull over and call the authorities, who will take care of removing the deer.
