NOVELTY, MO --
Missouri farmers are running a little behind this harvest season.
We wondered how the harvest is going for local farmers, so our fact finder team took to the fields. The corn and soybean crops were planted late in the spring, which has caused a delay this harvest.
“It's kind of a shame that we have raised a very good crop and haven't been real successful at this point in getting it harvested but we have time yet. Normally we would be a lot farther along but I'd say we're at least 2 weeks, maybe 3 behind what we normally are in Northeast Missouri,” said Randall Smoot, Superintendent of the UMC Greenley Research Center.
Smoot says the corn they do have harvested has a lot of moisture in it, and it costs more to dry it out and get it into storable conditions. But he said this year's soybean crop looks promising and he is optimistic about finishing the harvest on time.
