Agency uses video to show need for new I-70

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- The Missouri Department of Transportation is making its case for rebuilding Interstate 70 with a video that shows the death of a highway.
   
The video shows how layers of rock and soil under the pavement crumble after 50 years even though the driving surface might be smooth. MoDOT says I-70 is a good example of a road that has gone through its life cycle and now needs to be replaced.
   
State transportation employees created the video, and the Transportation Department says several other states have asked for permission to use it.
