KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- On Friday you heard from a business owner who says a street project is dangerous to drivers and pedestrians. Monday we spoke to another man who says the project is bad for his business. As a matter of fact, Old and New Furniture in Kirksville hasn’t had a single customer since Marion and Green Streets were milled almost three weeks ago.
The street is torn apart leaving large bumps and holes especially in the center of the road. W. L. Miller Company hasn’t been back to finish the asphalt work because they’re also working on Highway 63.
“After they took the asphalt off, they never came back and my last sale was on Monday the 14th and I haven't had any customers and sell anything up to now,” said New & Old Furniture Owner Amir Hamidi.
We spoke to other business owners along the torn up road who say it’s probably slowed down their business, but it’s more of an inconvenience than anything. They also said they were told it would only take a couple of weeks at most. According to officials, the asphalt work could start as early as the end of this week. That’s nearly three weeks after the project began.
Hamidi said he pays taxes to the city to complete projects like this and he just wants them to do their job.
“These people, they just took the concrete and the asphalt off the street and they left to start another job that was bigger and left us this mess. That's what it is and I'd like them to come and finish their job,” said Hamidi.
