Police arrest Albia kidnapper after stand-off

ALBIA, IOWA -- Press release from Albia Police Department

On Friday, August 28 at Approximately 5:15 hours, officers from the Albia Police Department found an unconscious male lying in the roadway of 11th Ave. East in Albia whom appeared to have been suffering from an assault. During the investigation, officers received information of a possible hostage situation in progress at 1103 11th Ave East in Albia.

A variety of law enforcement agencies responded to the address while the Iowa State Patrol Special Response Team served a warrant at the residence at approximately 9:20 hours.

Following the warrant service, Brien Arthur Mayer of Ottumwa, Iowa was charged with Kidnapping First Degree, Assault with Willful Injury and Domestic Abuse Assault. The defendant had additional active warrants for Harassment First Degree and Domestic Abuse Assault pending from Ottumwa.

No other subjects besides the defendant were found at the residence at the time the warrant was served.

The defendant is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail, no bond has been set.
