KIRKSVILLE, MO --

Kids in Adair County now have their backpacks full of school supplies.

Wednesday area children could pick up free supplies at the 19th annual Back to School Project put on by the First United Methodist Church. It took about 40 volunteers and $3000-$4000 dollars to get area children all set for the first day of school. The drive eases the financial burden for parents, and gives school kids the right tools for learning.

“The kids are excited when they see how nice the kits are. Some people were commenting about the kids that were coming out of the building and they were just like--ahhh! They were so happy because they look in and they see all the neat stuff, and it's a lot of fun,” said Coordinator Denise Comstock.

Several area service clubs chipped in to buy the supplies, and 520 kits were handed out.
