HURDLAND, MO -- Local law enforcement officers are investigating numerous reports of mistreated horses at the Janie Binkley residence in Hurdland, Missouri.

KTVO received more then a dozen phones calls from Hurdland residents claiming the owners of the horses are not providing enough feed for the animals. KTVO talked to a neighbor on the phone who said one of the horses died and the owners burned it in a brush pile.

Thursday, a rescue team from the Missouri Emergency Response Service successfully rescued a sickly horse from the property and took it to a local vet for treatment.

Reporter: “The downed horse, were there any signs of abuse or sickness? What was wrong with the horse?”

“The horse is very thin, and we have to determine, a veterinarian, an expert, has to determine what the concern is,” said Carmen Skelly, an Animal Cruelty Task Force Investigator with the Missouri Humane Society.

Skelly says it has not yet been determined whether an investigation will be conducted concerning the horse. No charges have been filed. Sheriff Mike Kite says he is not sure if the horse is owned by Binkley or one of her family members. The investigation is on going.
