Ottumwa man killed in motorcycle accident

(OTTUMWA, Iowa) - On the evening of June 18, 2009 at 11:38 pm, the Ottumwa Police Department received a report of a motorcycle accident in the 400 block of South Madison Avenue. Upon officers arrival at the scene it was determined the accident involved a single vehicle which was a 2000 Harley Davidson Motorcycle operated by Scott Alan Smith age 40, of 102 South Adella Street, Ottumwa, Iowa. The initial investigation indicates the vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed, left the roadway striking a curb and utility pole. Smith was transported to Ottumwa Regional Health Center where he was pronounced dead. The accident is being investigated by the Ottumwa Police Department.
