KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Despite the cool, rainy weather, the summer season officially begins in less than a week.
And that means the Fourth of July is just around the corner.
A sure sign of the Independence Day holiday can be seen all around Kirksville.
Local fireworks stands are assembled and retailers are gearing up to begin selling the popular July 4th item this weekend.
At one stand in Kirksville, when you purchase their fireworks, you will also be supporting a special cause.
"Most of it goes to the children's hospital. Our number one contact is the hospital in Saint Louis and all of childcare there is free," said Shriner’s Fireworks Co-Chair Wayne Bailey.
The Shriner's fireworks stand is open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. beginning Saturday. They will sell fireworks through July 5th.
Bailey says if they have customers still shopping at nine, they will stay open later.
