KIRKSVILLE, MO --

A local lawmaker says he's outraged by a piece of legislation presented on the last day of the legislative session.

Senator Wes Shoemyer tells KTVO he opposed a floor substitute to the economic development bill which gave millions of dollars to a St. Louis developer for a special project. A St. Charles group called Voters for Good Government sent out thousands of recorded phone messages to Northeast Missourians, slamming the way Shoemyer reacted to the bill.

“If we're going to have economic development in rural Missouri, if agriculture's going to thrive in Missouri, than somebody has to stand up and somebody has to be there who is willing to do that. In fact, the robo calls said I was intoxicated. I tell folks I was infuriated, not intoxicated,” said Shoemyer in response to the calls.
