OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa RAGBRAI committee held their second community party Thursday at the Bridge View Center.
The committee invited residents out to learn more about the big event and to encourage them to get involved.
Organizers were selling flowers and showing off the bicycle-themed decorations that will fill the city on July 23. That’s when thousands of people will ride into the city for The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI).
The committee is also holding all kinds of contests.
RAGBRAI Committee Chair Pam Kaupins told KTVO that members will be selling $100 sponsorships for a porta potty decorating contest.
“You too can decorate a porta potty and then we will have them displayed in the beverage garden on July 23 and it's a contest, you can win big money, big prizes," Kaupins said.
All of the money raised during contests help fund Ottumwa’s RAGBRAI event.
On Thursday the committee also announced some of the entertainment lined up for the big night.
Tom Arnold is slated to perform with his band called "Massive Fergusons."
Local groups “Sez Who” and “Standing Hampton” will also perform on the main stage in the Bridge View parking lot.
According to Kaupins, the largest laser company in North America will dazzle folks with a custom laser-light show featuring Ottumwa and RAGBRAI.
The next community party will be held on June 23.
