KIRKSVILLE, MO --

If you're not in the habit of wearing your seat belt, now is a good time to start. Until May 31, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is conducting a "Click It or Ticket" enforcement operation in Adair County. During last year's survey, about 76 percent of Missourians regularly wear seat belts.

“In Adair County, the targeted county, we found after a survey was conducted that the usage rate for seat belts was 73 percent, so we're slightly below the state of Missouri average and we'd certainly like to get more people in compliance with wearing their seat belts,” said Sgt. Bernhardt of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Extra troopers will be out in Adair County looking for violators of the seat belt law. About half of the approximate people killed in Missouri traffic crashes last year were not buckled up.
