KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Adair County law enforcement, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Adair County Prosecutor have signed a document to help fight regional drug abuse.
The Multi-Jurisdictional Enforcement Agreement, or MEG, provides funding to officers to work together during drug busts, regardless of jurisdiction.
MEG operations is funded largely from grant money through the Adair County Drug Coalition.
“The grant money allows for the overtime pay even with the highway patrol. We're talking about state agencies, the local and county agencies, and the city agencies, and it doesn't put a strain on the budgets of all those which naturally that's where the budgets are all in a big strain. So it's very important that we're able to sign this agreement and get the monies from a different source than just general revenue,” said Adair County Prosecutor Mark Williams.
Williams said the officers often put in overtime hours while targeting drug abuse. This funding will help pay those officers their overtime wage.
