Heartland residents took some time to honor local veterans Saturday.

The Disabled American Veterans local chapter 48 hosted its Annual Veterans Appreciation Day at the Reiger Armory in Kirksville Saturday afternoon.

The event serves as an information seminar for area veterans, something that local legislators say is vital.

“I think the major benefit of this kind of activity is to bring all of the veterans service organizations here so that veterans who have questions and didn't know who to contact have the opportunity to actually talk to people right here onsite,”
said St. Rep. Rebecca McClanahan.

Various veterans organizations set up booths with information on the services they provide.

Veterans and community members who attended the appreciation day activities also had the chance to listen to music and enjoy lunch.

This is the 12th year the DAV has sponsored the event.
