KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Spring turkey season starts Monday, but some people got their turkeys a little early at the El Kadir Wild Turkey Day in Kirksville Saturday.
Contestants young and old took part in block shooting, speed shooting, and turkey calling. There were also bee-bee shooting and owl hooting contests for the younger kids. This is the Shrine Club's 29th year hosting the event. Some of the money raised will benefit the Shriner’s Children's Hospital.
“Turkey Day is all about fun. It's all for the children, and that’s the Shrine Club’s basic thing: we work so children can play and we play sometimes so the children can get better,” said Committee members Donnie Waybill and Jerry Gillum.
Over $3500 in prizes were awarded to the participants, and of course, the winners got to take home a frozen turkey.
