DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa legislative leaders say they're intent on adjourning this week, but they've got plenty of work and late nights ahead of them.
House Speaker Pat Murphy says leaders will focus on a host of budget bills, plus a few other measures, then go home.
The biggest question could be a big overhaul of the income tax system. The plan calls for ending the ability of Iowans to deduct
their federal tax payments, then using the money that would generate to lower tax rates.
After the plan was tweaked to cut $55 million in taxes over two years, backers claim it would save money for 60 percent of
taxpayers. Another 15 percent would see no change and the remainder would pay more.
