KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Hectic and confused.  That may be one way to describe an emergency weather situation.

The Integrated Warning Team is a newly formed group which consists of the National Weather Service, emergency responders and members of the media.  The goal is to communicate as a team and look at ways to improve weather warnings to the public.

“The real significance is we all have our own role to play on the team.  National Weather Service is generally the technical experts we're good at making sure on a local level people understand what to do with those warnings and heed these warnings and the media partners are critical to really communicate the message to all the folks,” said Warning Coordinator Meteorologist Andy Bailey.

Bailey said the main goal is to urge citizens to react in a more effective way and stay safer during severe weather.
